Maree offers a variety of complimentary techniques, such as deep tissue, myofascial and trigger point work, remedial stretching, Reiki, and Swedish massage, in order to deliver a comprehensive healing experience. Understanding when and how these techniques should be applied during a treatment allow her to approach her clients needs with superb efficacy and provide more thorough, lasting results. She graduated with honors from Ashmead College in 2004. The 805 hour intensive program included a three month internship at the Northwest Cancer Specialists in northeast Portland where she massaged patients receiving chemotherapy and radiation treatments. In addition to practicing massage, Maree worked as an assistant to a chiropractor aiding in the treatment of patients and learning the valuable relationship between the muscular and skeletal structures in the body. In February of 2006, she earned a Reiki Master certificate in the Usuai/Tibetan System of Natural Healing. In 2008 she completed 100 hours of Traditional Thai Massage training at Sunshine Massage School in Chiang Mai, Thailand and The Naga Center in Portland, Oregon.
Maree believes her massage treatments are just one part of a greater holistic health lifestyle. She feels that daily stretching and breathing exercises are key elements in maintaining overall health, and can extend and maintain the benefits of her massage treatments. Proper diet, drinking plenty of water, exercise and lots of laughter are also very important. The combination of multi-modal physical manipulation and energy work has the greatest potential for a successful healing program.
Therapeutic Massage
A blend of Swedish relaxation, deep tissue, myofascial work, and stretching with the intent of improving the flexibility and health of the muscular structure and surrounding soft tissue, increasing circulation, relaxation and well-being of the client.
Deep Tissue Massage
A type of deep massage used to release chronic muscular tension or injury through slower strokes and more direct pressure or friction in the muscle fibers. Deep tissue focuses on realigning deeper layers of muscles and connective tissue. Typically used to treat sports injuries.
Traditional Thai Yoga Massage
The healing art of Thai Yoga massage is an ancient system with roots in Yoga, Ayurvedic medicine and Buddhism. It is a powerful system of therapy that combines Yoga stretches, rhythmic massage, acupressure, energy work and meditation. Thai massage stretches and balances the entire body. It is comically referred to as the "lazy man's Yoga" since the receiver just needs to relax while the practitioner puts them into Yogic stretches. This system releases stress and tension and deepens the connection between mind, body and spirit in both the giver and receiver. It is practiced on a mat on the floor with the client clothed in loose, comfortable clothing.
Insurance Billing for Motor Vehicle Accidents
Maree bills auto insurance companies for massage therapy treatments. If you or someone you know have been involved in a motor vehicle accident (MVA), you are entitled to receive massage treatment. It is your legal right to choose the Oregon Licensed Massage Therapist you want to work with. The auto insurance will cover the costs of the massage treatments. A prescription from a primary care physician (MD) or chiropractor (DC) is all that is required to cover massage therapy. Your MD or DC will evaluate the extent of structural, nerve and internal/external injuries to ensure that massage is indicated.
