Dr. Kathy Sweeney is a 2003 graduate of National College of Naturopathic Medicine. After graduation she completed a residency in Family Practice in Portland, Oregon. She owned and operated Juneau Naturopathic Clinic in Juneau, Alaska prior to returning to Portland where she now practices and also teaches parttime. She received her undergraduate degree in Health Education from Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon. She grew up hiking the trails in Juneau, Alaska and presently enjoys biking the streets and paths of Portland.

Dr. Sweeney believes that the patient and doctor come together in a partnership with the goal to discover and treat the underlying cause of presenting symptoms. Most people want their symptom to go away but they also want to know why they have that symptom in the first place. If we can identify why a symptom emerged in the first place, we can treat the underlying imbalance and eliminate the symptom permanently rather than relying on medication or supplements to keep it at bay. Treatment will focus on supporting the body’s ability to heal, balancing all six organ systems and improving the body’s ability to eliminate waste material rather than storing it inside. The ultimate treatment goal always is to restore normal physiological function whereupon pathology will disappear.

Dr. Sweeney practices general family medicine dealing with all acute and chronic health complaints and especially enjoys working with parents and kids. Because many modern diseases are the result of our modern diet and lifestyle, she enjoys teaching patients what they can do to improve their health, rather than what pills or supplements they can take to treat their symptoms.
